I am playing Stronghold 2 v1.4.1
In Path of War - Kingmaker.
If I capture an Estate, example Wisset, when I capture the castle disappears and the flag changes to mine.
When I point to the flag, it says it is 'Your Estate : Wisset'
But when I try to build defences on it example wood or stone wall, I am informed I can 'Only build these on Our own estate'
Am i missing something or doing something wrong???
Can you build defences on captured estates???

Hello, lord osborn . . .
Unfortunately, no defensive structures can be built on estates other than the one with your keep (though I've always kind of wished we could). However, it's probably more realistic and keeps the map from being one giant castle.

Hi Odyss
Thanks for the reply, it would have been nice to expand my Castle to the adjoining estate, but not meant to be.
Thanks anyway

You can build minimal defensive structures, and come up with this, an enclosed wall with only one way in. Pile in some archers, crossbowmen and a few pikemen, Horses can't climb stairs so even just the Engineers Guild is benificial to gaurding estates.
or theres always the editor. These buildings will nicely plug holes left by destroyed gates on estates.

Clever, the stockpile works as a gatehouse, engineer's guild works as a stairwell, and the rest work as walls.

Nice.
I was stuck on this question for a long time as well.
But I thought when reading the manual you had two types of estates. One village estate which was a small economical based and only made a handful of profits. The other was a castle estate which overflowed with resources and had an option to close, fat up, and increase it's defenses, or regularly send the profit to your castle.
The way I see it in-game, you only have the village estates, even when you conquer an enemy.

Yeah, I never though of using a stockpile as GH.. Normally I build a cluster of those buildings near where the enemy troops walk by and stack the roof with archers.

I think it should be possible to make wooden walls/gates in estates.
I think estates are useless most of the time because by the time you reenforce something being attacked you have to cap it another time and resend the goods that were already travling to your base.
I also want multiple carters posts, or tell them to speed it up.

You can build more than one Carter Post. Estates are not entirely useless, they give you Gold even if the horseys don't make it.

If you think about it historically, how many lords (or even some kings) could actually afford to construct castles throughout their territories? And be able to garrison them with a strong enough force of defenders?
Besides, as Doomsword mentioned, given the right terrain, many of the other buildings can certainly serve the purpose. And though there are times when I might like to have some nice walls and towers, I think that the strategy of the game is more interesting and tricky without them.

There are 2 types of estates, Your main castle estate and the village estate, you build your troops and defences on your castle estate, you can have a castle estate with no resources and no production buildings at all if you have access to village estates, you can set them up to give your castle estates everything you could need, you can also send goods from village to village.
If you want to see how village estates alone can feed a castle estate everything it needs, download (A Bad Seed)SH2 war scenario, there are 12 estates sending food, goods, weapons and food for the Lords kitchen to the castle, the castle would be lost without the village estates.
Sometimes when you capture a castle it changes to a village estate but you still have to move some troops close to the flag before it becomes yours.
